Plants may be happier in their normal native conditions but they must have a tolerance of extreme conditions, which may occur in their habitats perhaps once in a thousand years or even once in ten thousand years. Without survival mechanisms for extreme events in their habitats they would become extinct. As gardeners we can explore and exploit these tolerances.
