Why not knock on the door and ask permission to take a small cutting? My house is not really on a traffic street, but if I caught you trying to take a cutting without my permission, I wouldn't be nice to you. We would drive to wherever there was a likely candidate, and I would tell them that "they won't arrest children...." and "no one will notice a tiny bit missing".... They would sink down in the car seat and whine, "no - please - not again!" Sometimes I would pass an interesting plant for even several years, saying to myself that I should try to get a start - and suddenly it would be gone, a victim of homeowner disapproval or a bulldozer. So this is a good deed we're doing, as long as the original can spare some of its parts. -Cynthia W Mueller
