Even though Gythio is probably zone 10 -- it is a seaside town of the Peloponnese -- I collected seeds of several species there that are growing in my Oregon garden, which experiences considerable frost. I especially enjoy the Campanula versicolor which was growing in a cliff on the coast road near the town. It flowered wonderfully last summer and is growing well again. Many of the crocuses and Narcissus tazetta that grow there have done well for me, too. I think many Mediterranean bulbs and other plants can tolerate more cold than they normally experience in their native habitat. This is also true of North American Pacific Coast bulbs and shrubs.
