Hi, Stuff (moss, green slime, liverworts) grow where there are nutrients so watering fertilizer on the top of pots encourages this. I also feel that often the bulbs are near the top of the pot and appreciate being kept dry. So if I have time I like standing pots in a tray of water (watering from the bottom). The snag with this is to keep the water clean, or else one transfers disease from one pot to the next. Another option I've seen described for seedlings, and tried (but with no results to report) are slow release granules, one can control the quantities easily and precisely - although probably not the speed/timing of release. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net/
