I may be coming in on this thread in the middle. I asume Ae-Ae is the variegated banana That I have seen listed a few years back for $300. Imagine my shock when I found a 5ft pup for $80 this fall at the local farmers market. Now I am seeing if it can survive the winter in our basement under lights. I thought I had found something really special when I was informed by a local plantsperson that Plant Delights has a hardy version they are hoping to market soon!! In a couple of years I might have pups to send to the exchange if all goes well. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Pilling" <pbs@pilling.demon.co.uk> To: "Pacific Bulb Society" <pbs@lists.ibiblio.org> Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2011 12:33:47 PM Subject: Re: [pbs] Ae-Ae Bananas Hi, In message <410-2201111330172243562@earthlink.net>, MARK MAZER AND FREDRIKA MAZER <markmazerandfm13@earthlink.net> writes >I first saw this plant in a professor's garden in Coral Gables in the late >1960's and it is not too difficult to find in South Florida. I found an interesting site: http://togofcoralgables.com/AeAebananas.aspx belonging to someone who got their first plant from a professor in Miami. Seemingly they are "trophy plants" and change hands for lots of money. -- David Pilling email: david@pilling.demon.co.uk web: http://www.davidpilling.net/ post: David Pilling, P.O.
