No! Nothing like that. The root systems are MASSIVE and quite healthy. Bigger & better than I've ever seen. The roots spread easily 4 to 12 inches away from the bulbs in each direction (depending on the cultivar). Red Lion is the biggest. Followed closely by Orange Soveriegn.
