Afrikaans Pronunciation

To whom is it not, except Afrikaans-speakers? I speak Dutch with, I'm told,
a reasonable accent, but if when I'm in South Africa I try to pronounce
apparently identical Afrikaans words in Dutch, everyone falls about
laughing. Of course they're now two very different languages, especially
when spoken, though there are many differences in spelling too.
