Unknown bulb - help ID ?

No pic yet - but basically the bulb looks like a HIppeastrum (HUGE) bigger than the size of an enormous orange, but not as big as a grapefruit. The leaves are like a Hippeastrum (but wide) or even a Haemanthus, but are extremely, extremely leathery and tough. No hairs at all. Any guesses ? I have not seen the flower. The leaves are about 3 1/2 inches wide, and about 1 1/2 feet long.
