Members in the distribution area of the Portland Oregonian newspaper may notice that there are two major articles on Fritillaria in their March 11 Homes and Gardens supplement. The photograph of Erythronium helenae, mislabeled "F. helenae," is a typical example of the editors' failure to vet page layouts and check facts, or indeed to read communications from freelance authors. The writer, Sally Bourrie, sent me a list with "F. helenae" on it, and I wrote back telling her about the error. The photos were taken in my collection last year, although this is not acknowledged (I should be glad, I suppose). I have written a critical letter to the editors, but since it's not the first such note I've sent (just the angriest), they'll probably ignore it too. Jane McGary Northwestern Oregon, USA
