Is this a plant or seeds? If a plant, try burning it. In the wild, Xerophyta retinervis often looks dead for months on end. In winter a fire sweeps through the grass, the Xerophyta plants are burned, and they immediately begin to sprout. If seeds, perhaps try smoke.
