I would guess that Mary Sue's photo in Harry Hay's garden is of Nomocharis aperta, a light pink flower which has entire tepal margins and not much spotting. However, this genus is prone to hybridization, particularly in Britain, where it has been grown and both deliberately and "bee" hybridized for many years. Nomocharis is difficult for me since it requires a dryish winter and moist summer, but I've grown N. aperta well in the past -- until the rabbits ate it. Jane McGary Northwestern Oregon, USA
