Dear All:

With these plants already performing now in some areas, I thought I would
raise a question about the one which performs best in our climate,
so-called Lycoris squamigera. This is blooming here now.

There seems to be an emerging consensus that this is a hybrid.

If one wishes to refer to this plant as a hybrid, does a validly published
name exist? It would be convenient to write Lycoris × squamigera, but I
don't think the rules work that way - or do they?

Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, USDA zone 7, where these lovely
ecdysiasts are ablushing in broad daylight. I can't help wondering,
however, if all that exposure is not what resulted in the squamigera part
of their name.
