Colchicum problems

Another thought came to mind. Not considering potted bulbs, what is the
best technique for digging up the colchicums without slicing them in
half ( ouch) Any other member can add their favorite technique for
completing this procedure.
Dig them up before you remove the withered leaves, placing the shovel at
least 3 inches from where the outermost leaves emerge from the soil,
pushing the blade in deeply, and lifting carefully.
