All, Doesn't Windows XP come with the handy-dandy CharMap utility that previous versions have? It should be in the Accessories folder under the Start menu, and will let you easily access any special characters available to the fonts you are using. I think it may be counterproductive to have non-power users messing around with their system settings. I find that it is not too difficult to remember the more commonly used characters of the extended set, and whenever I need anything more, the CharMap utility is close at hand. Ken Kehl
