Mary Sue, Material of 'R engleri' in cultivation varies - it is not clear to me what the true situation is in terms of correlation with the original description which I have not seen. What is generally understood to be the plant is a mauve flowered taxon, as illustrated on the Audrey Cain website at http://www.bulbweb.co.uk/bulbs.htm Lauws material with richer coloured flowers may represent variation within the species. The plant is, I believe, of NW African origin. Regarding R gigantea, it is extremely easy to grow in the UK under glass. I have not tried it out of doors and, frankly, would not try to due to its invasive potential. regards Robin
