Jim, We have this plant growing at the Cologne Flora (botanical garden) in the cool greenhouse. It is apparently not reliably winter hardy in out Zone 8 climate. I have not tried it myself, so this is just an anecdotal observation. It could be no one wishes to tend it outside, being sensitive! It has reliably increased in the somewhat sandy soil, planted in half sun. Although a fascinating flower in a close-up, it's not very showy. Still a charmer. Jamie V.
