The Naked Lady season has begun in California ... Amaryllis belladonna, that is! I love to see these popping up in dry yards and fields in August here in San Diego, but those who provide even limited summer irrigation seem to enjoy full bloom up to 2-3 weeks earlier ... as has my neighbor here in San Diego: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amarguy/4842742690/ Not quite the spectacular show posted on the wiki previously by Nhu (WOW!) ... but beautiful none-the-less. My own Ladies in the Buff, growing in bone-dry beds and receiving not a drop of water since last March, are just beginning to snake their way out of the hard ground. And the hybrids with Brunsvigia will extend the bloom into September! Ken San Diego, Zone 10
