Dear Friends, This seems a bit early for the season to begin here in Kansas City, but we have had prime climate for Lycoris -not for mere humans*. We've had weeks of heat - most days over 90 F, then a few days ago we had over 2 inch of rain. Yesterday I saw a single stem of a Lycoris chinensis x L. longituba hybrid up about 1 foot. I checked around and saw no others, but L. sanguinea is usually the first to actually bloom here and no growth visible. I notice that Jay Yourch showed a pic of an opening Lycoris flower in his GA garden http://picasaweb.google.com/Jay.Yourch/Garden2010/… Stay tuned for even more Lycoris news. Let the flowering begin! Jim W. * Yesterday the air temp was 96 F and the humidity was also 96%. Fine for a sauna followed by a dip in a cool Norwegian pool, but not for shopping at the mall or anywhere outdoors. -- Dr. James W. Waddick 8871 NW Brostrom Rd.
