When I was younger I had a rather grand friend (I was told that when she was young she was one of the bright young things Evelyn Waugh wrote about) who grew ismenes purely for cut flowers: she had rows and rows of them in the vegetable garden. Her tastes were, need I say, both exquisite and expensive. Another friend used to show up at plant exchanges with peck baskets filled with bulbs of ismenes. Yep, they make wondrous cut flowers en masse.
