Maggie and Ian Young's announcement of the passing of Jim Archibald also appears on the forum of the Scottish Rock Garden SOciety along with the comments of some of the thousands of gardeners who have gained great joy from the life's work of Jim, Jenny, and their companions during their botanical explorations. The gardens of those who grow their bulbs from seed are likely to hold many living memorials to Jim. As I was lifting all my bulbs these past few weeks, not ten minutes would pass without a pot labeled with a "JJA" collection number. If you have visited some of the places where he worked -- and most of us have not, because he even went to the mountains of Afghanistan -- you will easily understand how hard he and Jenny worked to create this tremendous expansion of beauty and knowledge in the world of botany and horticulture. Ave atque vale.
