For those interested in Hesperocallis undulata- As a follow up to the discussion, I asked Mark Dimmitt, Director of Natural History at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson whether he or anyone he knew has attempted cultivation of this and he responded that he knows several who have tried......"with zero success." He states, "The bulbs never break dormancy. Seeds germinate, and then the yearling bulbs do the same permanent dormancy. No one has discovered the environmental trigger that makes them sprout." Mark Dimmitt may be known to many of us as principal author of the new adenium book (pub: Rainbow Gardens Bookshop; Tucson) as well as his Echinopsis hybrids but his professional CV may be seen at http://www.desertmuseum.org under/ 'Staff" which is under Reseach & Conservation.
