Duplicated messages

I don't think that your explanation fits the situation. There were 10 spam
messages one after the other with nothing intervening, not even spaces.

That happens when you can't download all of your mail. When you do it
again it repeats the ones you have downloaded. It is a mail server issue
not the sender. Probably because it is "clog the internet and download
your music season" when the students get back.
