I’ve seen dahlias in European gardens during August in full, profuse bloom. Back home here in Maryland it’s easy to get the impression that no one grows them, but that’s a mistake. There is an active dahlia group here and the group puts on a good show every September. But don’t look for dahlias in our summer gardens. I asked one of the exhibitors at a recent show about growing dahlias for summer garden display. He told me that he grows his plants for September bloom only.
