Daffodil longevity

Dave Karnstedt, who breeds and grows daffodils, wrote,
Too, 'Sweetness,' as a jonquil, is far more likely to survive and multiply
over

the years than is the 1 Y-Y. These big trumpet daffodils tend to be a bit
fussy and require conditions quite to their liking to be long lived and
perform
well from year to year.

I didn't realize that hybrid daffodils had particular longevity problems in
the ordinary garden, although this problem is what led me to give up on
tall bearded iris hybrids. Dave's statement makes me wonder if this is why
I can't keep 'Passionale', which is a beautiful large "pink" daffodil. Are
there other daffodil cultivars that are known to be short-lived once they
get out of their coddled nursery lifestyle?
