I live in San Diego (a mile north of San Diego State University). I have acquired several of the red leafed crinum via eBay. The small offsets are very slow to grow in containers outdoors, but if you have a warm greenhouse they will continue to growth all year. They love the heat. I purchased two mature plants ( they have no bulbs) and each are planted in 15 gallon containers. They are in flower now. Like bananas, the cooler temperatures forces them into a dormancy, even though the leaves are alive. New growth starts again when warm weather returns. This has prevented them from obtaining their 6 foot size that is normal in Florida. Claude Sweet The Masterson Family wrote: >Greetings from Southern California! I am wondering if anyone out there in my neck of the woods has any experience growing red leafed Crinums and any good sources for one. I would like to plant one in my Escondido garden but am not sure how hardy it would be and where to get one at a reasonable price. Thank you in advance. > >Mike Masterson >_______________________________________________ >pbs mailing list >pbs@lists.ibiblio.org >http://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php > > >
