Just for the record, I've been told by our Bancroft library which is the home of the home of the Mark Twain collections, that the scholars have never been able to verify the famous quote from Mark Twain you cite about one of his coldest winters was the summer he spent in San Francisco. However, we like to say that he probably would have said it if anyone asked, and even if he didn't, it's true. Ironically, we supposed to go up to the 90's in Berkeley today.
