I have inserted images of a Rhodophiala species (not yet identified, to my knowledge) that I came across in northwestern Argentina at around 9000 feet. The terrain is drier in winter and spring than for locales in Chile at its latitude and altitude. In late Spring (November and early December) these bulbs emerge from the stark, rocky mountainsides without leaves, an impressive sight to see. The orange floral tube is nearly cylindrical, with no flaring at the petal tips. Andrew Wilson San Diego
