Brunsdonna flowering
J.E. Shields (Fri, 10 Sep 2010 13:18:26 PDT)

I think the name "x-Brunsdonna" is botanically incorrect. I think probably
the correct name would be x-Amarygia. Both names refer to the same
bigeneric cross. Neither IPNI nor TROPICOS suggests which is correct, but
"Brunsdonna" combines a genus name with a species name, which doesn't seem
correct to me.

Allesandro:

Since I've flowered neither parent, I'll take your word. Any idea if the
Dutch plant has a cultivar name?

the cross, must be Amaryllis belladonna with Brunsvigia, the inferior petal
centers them turns out longer of the others

Allessandro:

Since I purchased the bulb from Holland as x Brunsdonna, I cannot verify
the
cross. It certainly seems to have Amaryllis belladonna as one parent, but
I'm open to other ideas for the second parent.

PBSers:

We had a nice surprise this week when our first ever xBrunsdonna
flowered.planted in 2005. I know this isn't big news for West Coast
gardeners, but with its winter growing foliage, I didn't expect that it
would ever build up enough energy to flower here, especially after such a
cold winter. I like this kind of surprises.
