Following up on Diana and Mark, I can confirm that Mark's suggestion of seed maturing on severed Allium floral stems can happen. This last May I brought in a flowering stem of a white flowered native allium to identify it. In a vase the flowers produced capsules and seed. The scape was thin, so the bulk of food storage tissue would seem to be in the flower parts. Fred Boutin Tuolumne, CA 95379
