I love red flowers but don't have many bulbs in red, yet. Years ago I grew Crocosmia 'Lucifer' in a Zone 6 garden with winter snow cover. It thrived and it's gracefully flamboyant flowers were my favorite. I finally purchased it again this year but only two came up. I do have Crocosmia 'Babylon' in bloom right now for the first time and, stretching a point a little, could describe it as flaming orange-red, especially in the late afternoon. I have my eye on a deep red Hippeastrum that I may eventually get. Kathy Stokmanis Northern California, Sierra foothills, Zone 8/9, C. Babylon, Bletilla, Oriental lilies, daylilies and Allium sphaerocephalum are the only 'bulbs' I have currently in bloom. No rain likely until October or November, currently 95 F. or above during the day.
