I generally sow all my small bulb seeds on the surface and cover with a thin layer of course grit. The O. maculatum has been outdoors for three winters now and it's time to give up. I will buy some of those from Silverhill (thanks! Ernie) but I was looking for the red flowered one with the black basal blotches. Since they seem variable I'll see what comes up in a hundred seeds. Thanks!
