They made it through the winter here in Maryland outdoors in simple green garden-center variety pots sitting on my back deck -- not near a wall. I was surprised and pleased. However, they're leafing out vigorously now, after our typical winter with 3 months of snow cover (December-March) followed by an atypical April with roughly twice as much rain as usual. They're planted on the south side of an unheated garage, where I assume they picked up some heat from the nearby concrete slab, but still - they made it! Next experiment: the open garden.
