Dear Jennifer. Great. Those images will be very helpful. The Gladiolus (if 
it is really a thrips attack) can be cured with an insecticide, of which 
there are so many in the States, if systemic , all the better.
As for the phaedranassa, virus has no easy cure, all its parts are highly 
infectious and the only role it will play will be that of a source of 
disease for future plants. I would not dump it but burn plant, mix and pot. 
Just to be sure.
