> >Are Alberto, Jane, Lauw, Diana, and I the only ones > growing this genus? Dear Alberto, Jane, Lauw, Diana, and I (Mary Sue), I grew four of the Dichelostemmas back in Alpine with repeat bloom each year. I had some D. pulchellum var. pauciflorum I brought from Arizona in which the corms grew HUGE, approaching Chasmanthe in size. They were completely hardy and indestructible. I planted the D. volubile underneath several manzanitas (Arctostaphylos pungens) where they bloomed seemingly forever. I was delighted and surprised how well D. ida-maia did in a shady location. The D. congestum was in a bed where it grew up through bluebonnets in the spring and was covered by evening primroses in summer. I love this genus! Sincerely, Shawn Pollard Alpine, TX
