I have three Crinums here in the NE New Jersey garden just 12 miles from mid-town NYC. The larger one which came from J. Waddick was planted with the help of a post hole digger. It was about three feet long. My guess is that the bulb dove down to get away from the cold that exists in Kansas. The other two are smaller and one is in flower now. No recollection of it's source. Most likely a B X distribution. Non of the Crinums get any winter protection. Attached are some images of it today. The one from Jim has not flowered in a couple of years. It has decided to dive in to smaller many non flower bulbs. They can be cold with no snow. They might be moderate temperatures. What happens to the Crinum pseudostem in winter? Does it survive? Will it freeze to mush? Do I need to cover / protect it somehow?
