South African bulb collections to see in California?

Oh, so that’s what happened to the UCI collection. I used to go down there (I’m in Livermore CA) to
look at the bulbs in the shade houses. One time I met Graham Duncan, curator of bulbs at Kirstenbosch,
who was helping to identify the bulbs. I haven't visited the UCI Arboretum since finding most of the
bulbs gone and the shade houses in disrepair.

The UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley received almost the entire bulb
collection from Irvine in 2003-4. Sadly, most proved of limited value to us
because data had been lost or mixed and worse, many of the bulbs had been
eaten by rodents or if alive, mislabeled. We have what's left.
