WHAT I FIND CONFUSING ABOUT HIPPEASTRUM BREEDING IS THE REPEATED CLAIM ON VARIOUS WEBSITES THAT DIPLOID SPECIES CANNOT BE SUCCESSFULLY CROSSED WITH THE BIG COMMERCIAL HYBRIDS, BECAUSE THE COMMERCIAL HYBRIDS ARE TETRAPLOID. I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED THE OFFSPRING OF SUCH A CROSS TO BE VIABLE, THOUGH STERILE, TRIPLOIDS. IF THOSE CROSSES DO NOT PRODUCED OFFSPRING, IT SUGGESTS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON. NICK I just checked my group seedling pots (mum pans) and the ones with a half dozen or fewer were commercial x (species or primary) or (species or primary) x commercial and the ones with 50 - 100 are (species or primary) x (species or primary) or commercial x commercial. That explains a lot of my disappointments but not Nicks more basic question. Anybody know where I can get some colchicine? Tim
