Hi Leo.
It sound Babiana likes water or wet condition during growing season.
It's confusing. Wet or dry?

I must confess I have been keeping Babiana of many species, from sprouts to
maturity, waterlogged during the entire growing season for some 10 years
without losses to rot. My seedlings die if not wet enough. (Birds and
javelina are troublesome.) Mine also have experienced overnight lows into
the teens F / -8C with neither foliar nor floral damage.
My climate has very low winter humidity except during rain, and days
following frosts are always well above freezing. Many winter days are in
the 80s F / mid 20sC. I use coarse sharp sand without adulterants.
