I have had qualitative success with a natural stratification with Dicentra. In fall, I fill a plastic flat with potting media, sow the seed, lay on bare soil, and cover with an overlapping window screen, and bury the edges in dirt to prevent mice, voles, etc. it also keeps out most other weed seeds. Don't know what percentage germinated the following spring, but it works. Do you use it undiluted in all cases or? Have you used detergent as was mentioned and if so, can anyone tell me how and in what quantity? I'm curious about why either of these two works. I can understand detergent working on a waxy coating, for example, but how does the peroxide work? There are certain native seeds, not all of them bulbs, that seem to defy me, dicentra being one. I always try to take into account possible issues with poor quality seed, but when it happens year after year, I do wonder! Robin @ Hansen Nursery Southwest coast of Oregon where it's raining, yes!
