I suppose everyone has been doing this for a century or more, but, if not, it looks like the forced germination technique works on calochortus seed, too. http://s1265.photobucket.com/user/paridevita/… It’s possible that the embryo is being forced out by hydrostatic pressure, but in that case, the seed can be squeezed and the embryo is forced out even farther, so I think this is actual germination. I squeezed the seed and the embryo stayed put. A second seed has done the same thing today.
