Given rainfall that we had a few weeks ago, we've not watered our bulb plot
here in San Jose. Probably too late for these bulbs, but we also plant in
well draining mounds, not pots.

How often you give water?
I think I planted Freesia grandiflora
at the same time, and they are ready to bloom. Everything grows fine except
for Babiana. Using the same soil mix that I made. ( DG mix)
I should stop watering for a while.

Our babianas of various kinds are growing strongly right now and will

bloom soon. Perhaps too much water, Makiko?

I think you answered your own question - since you say that they are

winter

bloomers, and it's spring there. Maybe they just needed a little more age
before blooming.
If they are winter growing, and it's spring there, then yes, they would be
going dormant, no ?

Hi Jude,
Dormant? I thought they are going to bloom in winter. (Actually it is
spring here. We do not have winter here.)
I live in Southern California. Many plants from Mediterranean basin and
South Africa are growing season here, and
ready to bloom. I found yellow flower buds of Tulipa sylvestris.
Heirloom irises are in bloom. Some daffodils are in bloom.

Hi PBS Members:

I can not remember the number of box for Babiana rubrocyanea that I
received last year. I planted last fall.
They quickly germinated, however, leaves turned brownish color since
December. I got so disappointed.
They are getting worse and worse, and Ifm afraid that I wonft have a
chance to see flowers.
Leaves of another variety, Babiana strict, have also slightly brownish
color at the tip, but they
are still growing well.

This is caused by some disease, infection, or too much water?

I need an advice.
