Hello Fred, I can remember the day the first commercial coco peat was offered to us as an alternative to our expensive Siberian or Newzealnd peats... I have used coco peat & chunks, & had reasonable success in my mixes.. I haven't had any salt problems, but I do leach the product in water for a week or 3 to remove some of the tannins etc... I find it most useful as it eventually begins to compost a little...
