Conseervation. Was: Legacy bulbs-desirable plants or weeds
Alberto Castillo (Thu, 18 Mar 2010 10:25:46 PDT)
"My most favorite plants in the world are the wild
species of Hippeastrum from South America. People and their goats are
wiping a lot of them out. That's why I grow as many as I can here in the
cold, inhospitable (to Hippeastrum) northeastern Midwest. They are at
least not going to become weeds right here."
Jim, goats do not eat Hippeastrums. A few decades ago a lot were dig out of their habitats for people to make "pretty" hybrids and then discarded. And, there are none to be wiped anymore.
"If I live long enough I
expect to see the world totally paved in asphalt between the high-rise
apartment blocks."
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
