Jane, In clarification: There are many Alstroemeria species from Peru, Ecuador, and Chile that need Zone10 or Zone 9 Chileflora lists several species hardy to Zone 8 or Zone 7. Most garden hybrids are hardy to zone 7a. Ligtu hybrids may take 6b with minimal protection. Sunset National Garden Book lists Alstroemeria hybridsas hardy in sunset zones: 5-9, 14-24, 26,28, 31,and the warmer parts of zones 32 &34. That would include Virginia , Maryland, Delaware, Southern New Jersey, and Southern Pennsylvania. The winter temperature range for zone 31 is 0-7F and for 32 0-10F. which describes USDA zone 7. Below 0F would put one in zone 6 i.e. Southerm Michigan. Hortus III and The RHS Garden Plant Index do not mention Sunset zones but agree with the 0F threshold. >> > _______________________________________________ > pbs mailing list > pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net > http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… > Unsubscribe: <mailto:pbs-unsubscribe@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… Unsubscribe: <mailto:pbs-unsubscribe@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net>
