Here in NY (Z7 border w z6, 20 miles north of NYC not far from the Hudson River) Alstroemeria aurea is perfectly hardy thus far. I used to cover them with wood chips but didnt get around to it this year and they came through our shorter than normal but cold winter just fine. I think our winter low was around 3F according to accuweather but where they are under the hemlocks it might be a bit warmer. They do seed around a bit and clumps expand with vigor but it flowers beautifully here in yellow and orange shades. I grew them from one of the rock garden seed exchanges. There is another much shorter one whose origin and name I lost track of that comes in pink iirc that does get some winter mulch as its in a different spot near some dieramas. Unlike A aurea it dies down soon after flowering and doesnt always make seeds every year.
