I use GIMP. It is capable of more than what I do with it, but is
excellent for what I do manage to do. As Leo says it politely suggests
correcting orientation. Rotate and crop a slightly to somewhat more
tilted image. I find it excellent for resizing images to any desired
smaller size. Embed a copyright notice - or any text for that matter.
Lighten a somewhat dark image.

image editor. When I was imprisoned in Windows I used the built-in Windows
image editor; now I use Linux and GIMP. GIMP recognizes incorrect
orientation information and offers to correct it. If not using GIMP, rotate
the photo 90 degrees in any direction. Save the file and close. Reopen the
file, rotate to the proper orientation, save and close. It will upload
correctly oriented.
