Dear Uli and Dear all To attract (a new generation of) plant lovers ( of all kinds and ages) is not sufficient to have a forum, you also have to include as necessary the acceptable (digital) behaviors that cannot imitate outdated behaviors from real life, i.e. exclusion, differentiation, dictatorship, put downs, preferential treatment, etc. etc. This requires a certain social maturity that is able to transcend past habits, and they extend beyond a Listserv or fora. Have the rules spelled out, and also practice behaviors beforehand, new members will come running! ;) Luminita Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2022 17:57:10 +0100 From: Uli <johannes-ulrich-urban@t-online.de> To: Pacific Bulb Society <pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> Subject: [pbs] new forum Message-ID: <44BC13E7-B9BB-4391-81FA-8838F4A22971@t-online.de> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 ?Dear All, We have used this email list to communicate within the membership for a long time and many call this list a forum. Let's not get confused about the terminology...... Personally I have grown up computer-wise and email-wise with the email lists of the The smiles on the faces of young plant lovers have not escaped me when I mention our way of communicating. If we want to stay alive as a society we must attract the young generation. But we must at the same time take care not to end up in a superficial kind of "pseudo-communication". So we decided in a long and careful process to change to a web based forum like the Scottish Rock Garden Club has been using successfully for quite some time.
