I was looking at the wiki Tropaeolum page this evening and the comments about T. peregrinum caught my eye, especially the comments about its seeming lack of heat tolerance. Here in zone 7 Maryland, where we typically experience week after week of summer days with temperatures well over 90º F, this plant grows like a weed and blooms very freely. Some old books on growing annuals (which were perhaps much influenced by conditions in the California seed growing areas) contain similar remarks about its lack of heat tolerance. Perhaps this seeming heat intolerance is only evidenced in dry summer areas: here it's rambunctious until it freezes.
