Ken I could understand your frustration, however At the end of that post as at the end of ALL of my posts I wrote Erin Grace, Thomasville, Georgia, USA -----Original Message----- From: pbs-bounces@lists.ibiblio.org [mailto:pbs-bounces@lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of totototo@telus.net Sent: Saturday, September 27, 2008 3:13 PM To: Pacific Bulb Society Subject: Re: [pbs] Bulbs for South India On 25 Sep 08, at 19:43, jegrace wrote: > All thrive in South Georgia... Is that the southern part of the state of Georgia in the USA, the southern part of the Republic of Georgia in the Caucasus Mountains, or, as seems most likely given the capitalized "South", the island of South Georgia in the Antarctic Ocean near the tip of South America? Okay, I know I'm being a bit silly, but the world is a big place that's gotten a lot smaller in recent time, so it behooves all of us to take extra care in the way we write about where we, or our favorite plants, are. A particular peeve of mine is the use of airport codes in lieu of city names. If I said I was at YYJ, it would communicate NOTHING to the vast majority of people. Those of you living in SFO or PDX or SEA, please remember this. When you post to the PBS mailing list, your readers are not just local friends who know the code. Or to put it another way, never use abbreviations, slang, local lingo, or anything else except fully spelled out, properly capitalized, formal names for places and locales. And if it doesn't have a name, use Google Maps to find out the longitude and latitude, and quote that. -- Rodger Whitlock Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Maritime Zone 8, a cool Mediterranean climate on beautiful Vancouver Island http://maps.google.ca/maps/… _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.ibiblio.org http://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/
