Sprekelia

Hi all,

Among the species I wish to test in a near future is Sprekelia formosissima, but my question rather concerns Sprekelia howardii.

I have seen on the Pbs website, that Doug Westfall cultivate this rare one in California. I was wondering if Doug is a member of the list as well and if he can give us some advice about its cultivation. Anyonelse has experience with this plant ? Were can I purchase bulbs of it ?

Moeover what are the current taxonomic status of Sprekelia glauca and S. clintae (synonyms ?). Is the species in cultivation somewhere ?

Thanks in advance again for your help,

PS. I am also looking for a copy (or photocopy) of the following paper - Lehmiller
D. J. 1999. A New Species of Sprekelia
(Amaryllidaceae). Herbertia, 54, pp.
228-231.

Dear Luc ,
The Stern book is really on ly now of historical interest although the list of
cultivars compiled by E.ABowles at the end is fascinating. The New monograph
can't be beaten for up to date info.Rod Leeds is a consumate grower of bulbs but
as I have not read his book I can't help more than that.He is a very keen
galanthophile too.Perhaps others know it well?
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi All, Looking at Abebooks.com for the Aaron Davis Thesis, I also found :

Stern F. C. 1956. SNOWDROPS AND SNOWFLAKES - A Study of The Genera Galanthus and
Leucojum. I guess that this book is outdated but does anybody knows what is the
quality of illustration and geographic data ? Quite an expensive book so I shall
consider your advice before buying... Also of interest (at least to me) is
"Autumn bulbs" by Roy Leeds... Anybody can tell me if that book is worth to buy
?? Thanks to all whom helped with the references... Luc who will soon be back in
the garden in still sunny SE France -----E-mail d'origine----- De : Diane

[pbs] Galanthus books Luc asked for a Galanthus monograph. Timber Press
published Aaron Davis' doctoral thesis in 1999: The Genus Galanthus It describes
the species. In 2001, Matt Bishop, Aaron Davis and John Grimshaw privately
published Snowdrops A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus. I own both and consider
them both essential. Diane Whitehead _______________________________________________
